Relationship stages in your love life Relationships, just like life, have their own stages.
It starts off with infatuation and goes through several stages along the way.
Then you begin to feel like you're in the womb all cosy and safe. Once you begin to wake up from the dream, you get some clarity: 'Oh, he leaves the cap off the toothpaste' or 'Oh no, she's dumping me for her friends'.
This stage is potentially the most difficult because you notice quirky habits but are not yet completely committed to your partner.
From this data, experts estimate that of the 33million Britons currently in a relationship, two per cent - some 588,000 people - were found to be in stage one, or "butterflies".
Ten per cent of Britons in love are believed to be in stage three – "assimilation".
The research gives a comprehensive list of the symptoms of what are dubbed the five stages of love.
Symptoms of the first state – known as "butterflies" – include a dramatic increase in libido, a drop in weight and an overall lack of productivity.
